Scholarships

Students, it is crucial that you apply for scholarships.

Search for available scholarships around the beginning of your senior year of high school, if not sooner. Most scholarship application deadlines fall between October and March.

Every student who is applying for scholarships should do 3 things:

  1. Apply for scholarships that are available through the specific schools you are interested in. Every college has a scholarship page that explains the scholarships available through the school. This goes for the college as a whole and colleges as in the departments within the college (Math, Science, Behavioral Science, etc.)
  2. Write a powerful generic essay! Many scholarships are available for writing an essay. Rather than write a million essays, write one essay that is excellent and then adapt it to the specific requirements of the scholarship. Many of them require similar key points as part of the essay
  3. Do a scholarship search and see what other scholarships you should apply for. Ask your school counselor what scholarships previous students have been awarded. If someone from your school got the scholarship before that can increase the odds that it is a legitimate scholarship. See below for ideas for scholarship searching.

Sterling Scholar A Sterling Scholar is a high school senior who is publicly recognized and awarded for the pursuit of excellence in scholarship, leadership and citizenship in the State of Utah. Applications must be submitted to Kelly Jones by Tuesday, Sept 20th, 2022 at 3 pm.

Nursing:

Some students choose to earn their Registered Nurse credentials from an associates degree program at a community college. These students may choose to further their education, in the form of a BSN or MSN program. Working as a registered nurse (RN) is a rewarding career with a bright future. If you love your job taking care of patients, then you’re in the right place. But if you want more professional opportunities, would like to advance your education, or need a higher salary, consider getting a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN). If you are an RN with an associates degree or diploma and want to go to graduate school, an RN to Master of Science in nursing (MSN) may be a good fit.

All Nursing Schools is an additional resource to check out the upcoming trends in the Nursing field and also explore universities offering RN, BSN, and MSN degrees.

The National Society of Professional Engineers offers scholarship opportunities and other student resources.

We have a total of 85 scholarships to award to students who are a graduating senior or will be eligible to graduate before September 1, 2023! All applications will be submitted electronically using the Adobe Sign platform. Please pay special attention to the following items as you help students fill out this application.

  • Pay close attention to the Application Scoring and Preparation tab. This information lets students know how the application is graded and what essay questions need to be answered during the application process. It would be proactive for students to type their answers to the essay questions in a Word document and save the document. When filling out the application, students can then copy/paste their answers into the application.
  • Make sure students have ALL documents needed PRIOR to filling out the application. Students will need to complete the application in one session, meaning they are not able to save their progress and finalize later. It would be wise if students had all documentation saved to a folder on the desktop or a storage device. This will allow for easy upload to the application. The documents required for the application are:

  • Please review the webinar from October 31, that talks about how to access the application and how to submit. You can review the webinar anytime at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0Z8UWRuSMc

All applications are due electronically on January 27, 2023. No application will be considering for review if submitted past this date. If you have any questions regarding the CTE scholarship and Tuition Awards, please don't hesitate to contact Ashley Higgs at ashley.higgs@schools.utah.gov.
