Helping students prepare and plan for life after high school is a major component of what we do as counselors at SAHS. We not only want our students to have a successful high school experience, but we hope to help them plan for future success in college, in their career, and ultimately, in life.

There is A LOT of advice out there on how to prepare for college. There is also a lot of information to remember! But take a deep breath and keep calm because we've got you covered! Take your time perusing some websites we have found especially helpful as you learn about all the in's and out's of navigating post-high school education.

Shmoop.com might be a silly name but they're serious about helping you prepare for college. While you are checking out their "College Essay Lab" or learning about "What Not to Do", you might actually have fun while you learn. Imagine that!

Collegeprep101.com believes "the more you know about what to expect when you get to college, the better prepared you'll be to deal with it, whatever it is." Makes sense to us! They include a great list of "College Terminology" to help you learn the higher education lingo.

Bigfuture.org is sponsored by the College Board (the SAT people!) so when it comes to preparing for college, they know what they're talking about. From college majors to college life, financial aid to how to "get in" you can find it all right here! Best of all, watch videos from real students who've experienced college life first hand, even those who never thought college was for them.


Going to School Out of State?

The Common Application, which is also more informally referred to as the Common App, is an advanced college application that is used to help prospective college students apply to multiple institutions at once. The University of Utah and Westminster College uses the Common App for their admission applications.  While you cannot apply to every single accredited institution by using this single online application, you can apply to a large number of undergraduate programs all across the world.
