Cub Update

Principal’s Message - November 4, 2025

As November gets off to a start, I want to first highlight resources for families again.

  1. This week is our annual Reach Out, Lift Up seminar. This is an event parents won't want to miss! Details are in the following digital flyer about the guest speaker and breakout sessions.  Click here: Reach Out, Lift Up November 6, 2025. Pizza will be served!
  2. It's also the time of year we nominate families for our Brighten the World Giving Tree project. If you know a family in need of help this Christmas, please call the office and nominate them this week.  The office number is 801-987-8755.

(3) As the federal government shutdown continues, Summit Academy Schools recognizes that some families may be facing unexpected financial challenges.

To help ensure that all students have access to healthy meals during the school day, families whose current income may now qualify for meal benefits are encouraged to apply for free or reduced-cost school meals. Applications can be completed online anytime at https://summit.usoe-dcs.org/Login/. Login under your parent account and select the Free/Reduced Meal Application tab on the right-hand side. Families may also request a paper application from the school, or you can visit the website https://www.summitacademyschools.org/main/applications-forms and select the Free & Reduced Lunch tab. The application reflects your household’s financial situation at the time of submission, and families are welcome to apply whenever there is a change in income, such as during a furlough or reduction in work hours. Once approved, meal benefits remain in effect for the entire school year, even if your household’s financial circumstances improve later on. Families who no longer wish to use this benefit may contact the Summit Academy Food & Nutrition Services Department at 801-572-9007, though it is not required.

  1. Our Cereal Drive continues this week, supporting local food pantries in our community. As part of our Tree Lighting assembly, we’ll be using the donated boxes of cereal to build a domino track before delivering them. This service project is a fun and joyful kickoff to our Brighten the World tradition for the holidays. If you're able, we’d love your support with a cereal donation.  We appreciate you!

November 5th and 15th, Healthy Bluffdale Coalition is partnering with Fat Cats for a screening about growing up in the digital age. See our Community Connection section for details in our Summit Independence Cub Update

After school Beginning Band has begun. If you weren’t able to make it to the first rehearsal or parent meeting today, please reach out to Mr. Bean at adam.bean@summitacademyschools.org.

Friday is our Summit Parent Organization meeting at 9:00 a.m. We will be discussing our Giving Tree, the upcoming writing contest, and Literacy Night. We hope many of you can join us. Please call the office if you would like to participate virtually.

If you didn't catch the news last week--the long-awaited construction to fix the narrow bridge on 14600 South will begin November 17th. We will all need to re-route this winter.

We have a lot of fun holiday performances and activities coming up. Watch our Summit Independence Cub Update for continued information and important dates.

Last, but not least, we want to congratulate our junior high students. First quarter we had a higher percentage of students on the honor roll than usual. We will celebrate tomorrow morning with an Honor Roll Breakfast!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Cutler

Principal
