Summit Academy Independence Safety Message

We are sending this message again today with a few additions highlighted in yellow. It has been a great morning!

Summit Academy Independence Safety Message

Safety is our highest priority. Tomorrow is the first time kindergarten will also begin school the same day, so we need to all be on our "A game" to move everyone off campus safely and as timely as possible. Please read this message carefully, examine the safe walking routes in the attachment, and watch the dismissal video in the link below. Then talk with your children about how they will exit the building and where they will meet siblings, or you, if they are walking.

Dismissal Video (click here)

  • Encourage brothers and sisters to meet outside after they have exited the building except for those picking up kindergarten or first grade siblings. Also, remind older siblings to have their friends wait outside while they get the younger siblings.
  • We will have yard signs out to help parents know where to wait outside of the building for students to exit. Kindergarten parents may wait by the kindergarten door.
  • Please plan a route that will allow you to enter our driveline from Heritage Crest Way turning right rather than trying to turn left into the driveway. The extra time it takes for you to drive that way will be regained as we keep our driveline moving. Left hand turns end up delaying traffic trying to exit the front driveway. If you can also exit turning right onto Noel Nelson Drive after picking up, that helps as well.

We will be teaching all students during school the safe walking routes and exit protocol, so we want family plans to match. Students who walk exit in groups by last name. Again, they may meet whomever they need to outside. Most walkers will exit the back doors, and there is plenty of room to meet in the back.

  • The only students who exit the main front doors are shuttle riders and those being picked up in the driveline. Everyone else will exit another door, so please examine the map, watch the video and then call if you have questions.

We really are very excited to start tomorrow. We have noticed how kind and helpful you are to one another even in frustrating situations outside and ask you continue to be that way. Thank you!

  • For those picking up in driveline, we form into four lines then take turns at the front pulling forward into the loading zone.
  • Drop off in the morning works the same way. You move to the corner in four lines then merge one at a time into a single line in front of the school to drop off. Please move forward to the front cone, so we can get a nice long line of cars unloading simultaneously.
  • All students enter through the main front doors in the morning.

We would love to have you take picutres outside in the morning and let students (except kindergarten) enter the building on their own.

  • Students NEVER cross either driveway. All routes avoid that from happening. In the front by the park, students walk on the grass up to the school rather than cross the driveway.
  • There is no stopping on Noel Nelson Drive in front of the school.

Because release takes longer the first day as we are teaching everyone, we will begin dismissal ten minutes early the first day.

Thank you, and welcome back!
