Desiree Weser

1st Grade German Immersion Teacher

This my 13th year of teaching and my 10th year of teaching German Immersion at Summit Academy. I love what I do here at Summit Academy. I feel like we have a cohesion here as a staff and with our students that I have not found elsewhere.

My husband and I have 6 children. They are all grown, but not all out of the house and that is ok with me. We also have 5 grandchildren and it is amazing to be a grandma. Everytime they leave our house or we leave theirs I always ask them, “What are you supposed to remember.” Their answer is, “Grandma loves me.” It warms my heart and I hope it is something for them to remember their whole lives.

I am not a native German, but my husband is. My first foreign language experience for me was Japanese, as I served as a missionary there. Amazing experience in an amazing place. Before I left to go to Japan, we had a German foreign exchange student come to live with us. Six years later I married him. What a great life we have had together. We have lived in 3 different countries (Germany, the US and England) and make frequent trips to Germany, because his family still all live there. I never would have believed the direction life has taken me, but I am loving the journey.
