As part of their studies, students explored the work of Banksy, focusing on typography and visual messaging. They created pieces inspired by their favorite space-themed quotes, incorporating cosmic imagery alongside spray-painted backgrounds and acrylic marker techniques.
If you have a chance, we encourage you to stop by and experience these incredible works in person.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Salt Lake County Library for partnering with us and for their continued support of our students and the local community.

Our school proudly participated in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary National Art Contest! Students from kindergarten through eighth grade had the opportunity to enter this meaningful nationwide competition centered on the theme of patriotism. We were honored to welcome Navy veteran Mike Stiebing and his wife, who spoke with our junior high students about what patriotism means to them. They shared personal experiences and engaged students in thoughtful conversations about their artwork and creative interpretations of the theme.A special thank you to Cindee Sommer, Summit Academy’s Nutrition Coordinator and a member of the VFW Auxiliary board, for helping coordinate this visit. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to connect their art to real-world experiences, leading to meaningful discussion, reflection, and open dialogue.

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art recently visited our campus with their box truck exhibition, giving many students the opportunity to observe and experience Moments Archives, an artwork by Kellie Brooks. This visit provided a meaningful opportunity for students to see a working artist from the community and learn more about what she does and how she creates her work.
Through this experience, students were encouraged to think more deeply about artistic symbols and to consider how art can hold different meanings for different people. Seeing a professional artist’s work up close helped students better understand the creative process and the ways artists communicate ideas and stories through their art.
Students in my Foundation Two class responded to the visit by creating their own artworks inspired by the experience. They also wrote notes of thanks and reflections to Kellie Brooks, sharing how her work influenced their thinking and creativity.
The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art is a wonderful institution, and we are very grateful that they brought this experience to our campus. It gave our students valuable insight into contemporary art and the role artists play in our communities. We hope to welcome them back again soon.

With around 300 participants, this night was a big splash of fun! A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out and supported our students—we couldn’t have done it without you! 💙🖌️
