We love creating memorable events that bring our school community together—and your voice helps make them even better! From Fall Fiesta to Field Day, we’d love to know what your family enjoyed most and where we can grow. Thank you for being such an important part of what makes our school special. Please take a few moments to complete this short survey and share your feedback on our parent-supported activities. https://forms.gle/pfpZS8zVy8GmKH7s6 .Your input truly makes a difference!
Arena scheduling for the upcoming school year will be open from May 4–May 18 for current 6th graders who will be attending Summit Academy Independence next year. Arena scheduling is the process of creating your student’s class schedule for junior high. During this time, families can log in to review the student’s draft schedule and make approved changes directly in the system. Some classes are locked and required courses must remain on the schedule, as dropping them may cause changes to elective placements. Requirements differ by grade level, and placement decisions are based on academic data and teacher input. More detailed information, including required classes and step-by-step guidance, can be found farther down in the Bison Update.
RISE assessments begin this week for students in grades 3-6, and we appreciate your support in helping students be successful. Please ensure that your child arrives at school well rested and well fed each day, as this helps them do their best. We also encourage parents to emphasize that these assessments are simply tools teachers use to understand what students have mastered this year; they do not affect students’ grades in any way. A calm, positive mindset will help students approach testing with confidence.
As we head into these final weeks of the school year, thank you for your continued support—and please remember that encouraging your child to read at home each day is one of the best ways to help them finish the year Bison strong

All library books are due the week of Monday, May 11th. As school is winding down, it is time to make sure we have all library books returned. Our librarian, Mrs. Landis, is working diligently to make sure all library books are sorted and accounted for. Please help your students by turning in their library books before this date. If your student has any outstanding books or library fees due, payments may be made in the front office.
We have Field Day coming up on May 27th. Field Day will have several different outdoor activities for the students to participate in throughout the day. In order to have a successful Field Day, it will require many volunteers. Keep an eye out for a Sign-Up Genius to help volunteer in a few weeks. We look forward to hearing from people who would like to assist with making Field Day SPO’s final event for this school year!
Arena Scheduling for the upcoming school year will open on May 4 and close May 18th.
For families who are new to this process, arena scheduling is the period when students attending junior high and their parents log in to review the student’s draft course schedule for next year and make any needed changes. During this time, you and your student can add or drop classes directly in the system.
To support you through this process, a link is provided below to a Google Drive folder that includes:
We encourage families to review the materials and give the process a try using the guide. After using the guide, if you’re still unsure or have questions after reviewing the information, you are welcome to schedule a meeting with the Independence Campus counselor, Rachel Dabel, she is happy to help.
Thank you for taking the time to work through scheduling with your student. Your involvement plays an important role in setting them up for a successful year.
Thursday, May 28th is our Dance Festival & Last Day of School for all grades K-6.
Our Dance Festival begins promptly @8:45am to 9:45 am (approximately). Families may bring blankets/chairs and find a spot outside on our recess grounds after dropping students off in the morning. This event will conclude all activities for the year and parents may take their student(s) home following the end of the festival.
We have a good amount of coats, jackets & sweaters in the lost and found. If you have a chance to stop by the school, please check through the lost and found in the atrium near the office. All items will be FREE after the Dance Festival on May 28th. Items not claimed will be donated at the end of the school day to the local thrift store.
With the end of the year aproaching, we are collecting gently used school uniforms to support families who may be in need. If your child has outgrown any uniform items, we would greatly appreciate your donation.
Please ensure that all donated uniforms are clean and free of holes or significant wear. We will gather all donations through till June before the office leaves for summer break and have them available during Back-to-School Night in the fall where families can browse and take items they may need.
Thank you for your generosity and for helping our school community support one another.
Mrs. Evans is inspiring students to turn recyclables into beautiful art and we’d love your help! Please send donations with your student or drop them off at the front office. Thanks for helping our young artists create something amazing from everyday materials!!
