Welcome New & Returning Students Principal's Message August 11, 2026

Dear Summit Academy Parents,

We are looking forward to having our students back on campus next week.  This week our teachers are in training and prepping mode and there’s an exciting buzz in the air as they anticipate their new students.

We’re holding our first Annual Welcome to Kindergarten on August 12th from 5:30-6:30. Parents can help their student drop off their supplies in the classroom and meet their teacher.  Students will remain with their teachers for some exciting get-to-know-you activities while parents attend a session with the administrators in the gym.  To finish out the night, parents will join their students in the classroom for class specific information.  We’re so excited for our newest students to join us at Summit Academy!

Please save August 14th from 5:30-6:30 for Back to School Night and Supply Drop.  Students and parents will be able to meet their teacher and drop off their school supplies.  We will kick off the evening with a New-To-Summit Parent Information session from 5:00-5:30. This session will give helpful information to families who are new to our community.  You can find the Supply Wish List by clicking on this link: Grade Level Supply Lists.

I want to remind everyone that during those first 2 weeks of school, loading will take much longer than usual.  Please plan for this so that it doesn’t become overly stressful. Once the students, parents and staff are back in the swing of things loading usually takes 25 minutes from start to finish.  We begin afternoon loading at 3:00 and finish by 3:30. Driving through the loading lanes is the safest way for students to meet up with their parents.  If you choose to have your student walk to the park, please understand that we will walk your student safely across the entrance and exit of our property, but you will need to be responsible for them after that.  There is no school supervision at the park.

For the first 2 weeks of school parents will be able to enter the school, without checking in at the office to walk their students to class.  Starting September 7th, after labor day, we will kindly ask that all adults check in at the office before entering the school from 7:45 AM to 4:00 PM.  Please remember to bring your driver's license if you plan to enter the school beyond the office.   I truly appreciate your support with this safety measure, as it helps ensure our school remains a safe and happy place for all our students.

Each year, as part of the Utah State Legislative process, Summit Academy receives Teacher and Student Success Act (TSSA) funding to support student learning and teacher effectiveness.

There are very specific ways this money can be used, and several ways in which it cannot.  Our primary use for this money in past years has been to increase the number of teachers and paraprofessionals in the classroom. It is essential that we receive feedback from a diverse stakeholder group on our TSSP plan and framework.  Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts and perspectives. Your responses will help guide priorities for the coming year.  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdpAEr_bxrgc0Jpg9mPxUd0NtvvVc92Z1RHhbPfE3J2hCC8KQ/viewform?usp=dialog

Intercampus Shuttle Update

Families who use our intercampus shuttle service should review the new shuttle schedule for the upcoming school year. Morning and afternoon shuttle times have changed, and there will be no afternoon shuttle service on Fridays. Please note: MSA afterschool program students will be picked up on Fridays at 1:30pm at the Bluffdale campus and be transported to the Independence campus.

A signed shuttle rider agreement is required for all students who will be riding the afternoon shuttle to one of our other campuses. This includes any students enrolled in the Afterschool Program with My Summit Adventures. Forms will be available to pick up & sign during back to school night.

Our LEA is working diligently to get another bus so the times may change. We will continue to keep our families updated on this matter.

We are excited for a GREAT 2026-27 school year!

Important Carpool/Visor Tag Information

A carpool ID visor tag is assigned to all families at our campus and is used during loading at the end of the day in our carpool lanes. Without this visor tag, we are unable to call your student for end of day dismissal. If you do not have your carpool ID visor tag, you will be asked to park and check in at the office with a proper id so we may release your student to you. All families are required to have a carpool visor tag for the loading lanes during school dismissal. Your new visor cards will be available to pick up on during Back to School Night or at the office the week before school begins.

Dismissal will be performed in 3 easy steps:

1. While in the carpool lanes, a school staff member enters the family ID numbers from the new visor card.

2. This triggers the corresponding student names to show on the screen in their classroom directing them to their colored zone on the curb.

3. Students proceed to their vehicle in the colored zone and depart.

For families who want to carpool with other families , contact the office to register for a group carpool number.

Kindergarten Assessment Week- August 18,19 & 20

All incoming kindergarten students will need to schedule a time for their Kindergarten Assessment.

Please note kindergarten students will not attend regular classes on these assessment dates, as no standard instruction will take place during testing. If you schedule with the incorrect teacher, your appointment will be cancelled.

Rise to the Summit- Coming Fall 2026

The Rise to the Summit Award is a great way for students to challenge themselves, build confidence, and grow along the way. It encourages them to step outside their comfort zones, stick with their goals, and see what they can accomplish through effort and determination. As they work toward the award, they also build important skills like problem-solving, organization, and independent learning—all of which help them succeed in school and beyond. It’s also fun and meaningful way for parents to support their child and celebrate their progress. You can find more information about the program on our webpage. Rise to the Summit 2026

Gently Used Uniforms Donations

We are collecting gently used school uniforms to support families who may be in need. If your child has outgrown any uniform items, we would greatly appreciate your donation.

Please ensure that all donated uniforms are clean and free of holes or significant wear. We would like all donations to the school by Tuesday, August 11 so we can have them ready and available during Back-to-School Night where families can browse and take items they may need.
