Stephanie Strait

Music Teacher - Department Chair

Mrs. Strait is the is the music teacher for Summit Academy High School and serves as Chair of the Arts and Foreign Languages Department. She studied at New Mexico State University and Weber State University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Instrumental Performance. She also holds a Master's degree in Music Education from Liberty University. She enjoys being an active member of the music community and has always been involved in arts-based nonprofit organizations in her community serving as an advocate for the arts and arts education.

 Mrs. Strait has performed with Chamber Orchestra Ogden on flute and piccolo for eight seasons so far, and looks forward to many more years of excellent performance experiences with this ensemble. She also explores her love for jazz playing tenor sax with the Riverton Jazz Band where she has enjoyed performing with exceptional musicians for the last year.

 Mrs. Strait served on the board of directors for Performing Arts Weber for five years, and the Utah Flute Association for three years. She was Executive Director of NEXT Ensemble, an Ogden-based performing arts organization for two years. Additionally, Mrs. Strait managed the Weber State University String Project for four years where she had the opportunity to launch and conduct the Ogden Youth Symphony for two seasons before entering her teaching career in public schools.

 Her husband, David Strait, is a percussionist and fellow music educator. Many of her hobbies center around music activities like playing guitar, jazz, and Sacred Harp singing, but she also enjoys paddle boarding with her husband and discovering all of the best local restaurants in town.
