Dear Summit Families,
We are excited that plans are finalized for students to return to campus for the 2020-2021 school year. The buildings have been so very quiet, and we miss the energy and excitement that our students bring. Students thrive in a safe, structured and nurturing environment. Our hope is to keep school “in the building” through a shared commitment from students, teachers, families, and staff by mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Our COVID-19 Reopening Plan was developed with extensive input and feedback from parents, teachers and administration. We also followed the State of Utah, Salt Lake County Health Department and The State Board of Education requirements. We are planning to have all students back on campus five days a week with an early release each day (school specific schedules will be released July 24, 2020), but realize that some of our students and their family members are in the high-risk category for COVID-19. We also recognize that some families are not yet comfortable returning to campus at this time. We are eager to support all families and students at Summit Academy in kind and compassionate ways. We will provide a distance-learning-based education for these students. Students who become ill or quarantined during the year will continue their learning at home by transitioning into our distance learning program and then back to school again once they are well. However, it is understood that distance learning does not equate to in-class learning.
Our completed School Reopening Plan details all of the changes that we are putting in place to help mitigate the chances of spreading COVID-19 at school. We feel confident that Summit Academy buildings will be prepared, and staff will be ready to offer a rigorous education in a safe and healthy environment. We look forward to supporting your students as they grow emotionally, socially and academically at Summit Academy.
Attached are the student expectations for our distance learning education option and the Summit Reopening FAQ to help answer any immediate questions you may have. Please read through them carefully. Our distance learning option for the 2020-2021 school year will have distinct differences from our soft-closure plan from last spring. If distance learning is desired for your situation, you may indicate that by clicking on the link below and completing the request. This request will be open until August 1, 2020 at which point your choice will be finalized for the 1st quarter of the 2020-2021 school year. If we do not hear from your family by August 1st, we will assume that you want your students on campus and will register them in an on-campus classroom.
We look forward to the upcoming school year with anticipation and are excited and prepared to take this adventure with you.
